Going With Your Strengths.
What does that mean? Well it means work with what you are good at. For instance, I am great at explaining how you can make a happier life. This comes easy to me because I am passionate about it and live my life according to it. Now if I take that same effort and try to sell you on life insurance (I have tried this) I won't do so good. I am not passionate about life insurance and I don't live my life by it.
So the key, obviously is to find what you are good at. This can be as easy as you allow it to be. First what are you passionate about? Do you enjoy teaching your dogs new tricks and think about training dogs? Do you love data entry and organizing office systems? There is something that every one of us is good at.. oh and that we enjoy. You have to enjoy what you are doing.
Does this mean that you won't be challenging yourself? No you will be challenging yourself in a huge way.
Lets talk about Deflection. Deflection is something we do to avoid something else. Mine was Real Estate. I want to do this.. what I am typing about. Teaching, Mentoring and Guiding others to a happier life but that felt scary and I was unsure if I would fail or lose control of the class like I did when I gave it a try several years ago. So instead of diving into what I really wanted to do I struggled for a year and half to get my real estate license. Hurdling over financial and mental blocks to reach the goal. Went to two different companies to find out I hated it and what I really wanted to do was help turn other agents around by helping them realize their own potential. Not sell houses.
So in order for me to do what I really want to do I have to open myself up to a new way of doing things. My Way. Yeah I have to be vulnerable and know that I can do it my way and it will attract the right people to listen to what I have to say. I have learned that to do this I have to be ok with that fear of what others might think of me and accept it. We all have opinions about each other, it's human nature so we have to wallow around in that fear, accept it and then do what we really want and need to do.
So the question of this post is.. What are you doing to deflect what your are passionate about?
Oh and what are your strengths? What are you really good at that you want to share or just do. Put the wheels in motion in that direction. Just a step at a time.
And another IMPORTANT thing is don't feel like you have to fix yourself. Just get better at being you. Get comfortable with who you are and do what you want to do. Make it a huge part of your life. Jump those big hurdles just as intensely as you did when you were finding something to deflect with.
